I’ve been spending more time working with lighting. Looking to get more dynamic elements and trying different things for different effects. My current setup is simple and inexpensive. I use Speedotron currently mainly becuase its one of the least expensive but reasonable quality lighting rigs that’s out there. Lights range from 100-200 dollars and the pack is around 1000 dollars.

However after borrowing my friends Prophoto rig I can see why some folks are will to drop almost a grand per light to get the flexibility and durablity of the equipment. Until, however, I am willing to drop over 8 grand on new lighting, Speedotron is for me.

Here are a couple shoots that I pulled together.

A few days ago, I just received some of my first prints from DPCprints. I have to say that I am very glad that I took the extra time to order my own prints just on the offhand that I missed something. Turned out that I had some glaring edits that I had missed when working on the piece on my computer. I would like to say that I’m usually pretty thorough in checking my files and going over the piece but often times its hard to see the whole picture at a resolution that will show the defects.

It may be more expensive and take some time to post, approve, print and check, however if someone ordered this piece I would have been so embarrised if either:

A. The customer saw the error and let me know in which case I would want them to get their money back which would not be an easy feat with a 3rd party printer.

B. I saw it hanging on someones wall and I saw the defect, I would have the instant urge to take down the piece and send them a new picture whilst cursing at myself.

Both options are not good. Take the time, take the extra money, be thorough, be good to your customers.

This shoot has gotten mixed reviews, either horror or wonder and very little in between. The shoot itself was the brainstorm of myself and Erik Dakota. Erik is a fantastic piercing artist in the Bay Area.

It is one of my most favorite shoots that I have done so far. It has encouraged me to get a print account set up and start offering my photography to others. It’s also where I have started to figure out what I am looking for in my art and photography. This shoot has evoked a reaction more than my other pieces. At first I wondered if I had made a mistake. After thinking about it, however, I realize I was dead on with what I wanted, envisioned and hoped for.

As Thomas Friedman says the world is flat. His concept was more of a socio-economic statement. Mine is more of a statement that people are truly different and enjoy so many different things. Though many will find horror with this piece, they may kringe they might have to look away, and they may shudder. I also hope they look at it and realize that we as humans can do the most amazing things.

I want to capture personality in my art, I want to capture a human, who they are, inside and outside, and express that to others. More of my work will probably drift around from edgy fetish, to comical, to just exploring the beauty of ourselves.

I also offer up the documentary that behindkink did about the piece. I invite you to watch.
I noticed that their site is a little cluttered and could use some UI improvements, but overall the setup was painless. Its a little early on whether I would recommend utilizing their services but I’m happy so far.

The first image I put up is one of my favorite shoots, I will be getting more in the store later

I now have an official blog site where I will be posting about my photography and a bit about technology. I do have to say getting wordpress set up was all and all a pretty simple task. I will probably configure it more in the future, but its up and running so I will leave it alone for a while. I will shortly be posting about the shoot that we did last weekend, and soon I will have prints for sale for those that would like the imagery.

Thanks to thisisstar for giving me the idea and the pointers for setting everything up. Now back to more devious planning……..
